The senator's mother guia gomes currently holds the mayoral position in the city while his half brother, former senator jinggoy strada. unlike ejercito, his half brother estrada said political families should not be barred from public office as long as we serve with utmost integrity, dedication and honesty. ejercito had previously said he may reconsider his plans of seeking re election in 2019 should estrada run for the same post.
